Influenza is a viral infection that attacks your respiratory system- your nose, throat, and lungs. Influenza, commonly called the flu, is NOT the same as the stomach "flu" viruses that cause diarrhea and vomiting.

Common signs and symptoms of the flu include:
• Fever over 100° F
• Aching muscles, especially in the back, arms, and legs
• Headache
• Dry cough
• Fatigue and weakness
• Nasal congestion

Vaccine Options:

• Flu Zone (Quadrivalent)- Made with an inactivated (killed) flu virus; administered by a needle; protects against four different flu strains; approved for use in healthy people six-months and older and people with chronic health conditions

• High Dose Flu Zone- The first and only influenza vaccine specially formulated for people 65 years of age and older. It has 4 times the antigen (immunity activator) of regular flu shot for a stronger immune response to the flu.

• Based on recent studies by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Family Care Associates will not offer the Flumist (intranasal) vaccine this influenza season.

It is important to note that your flu vaccine will only protect you from the "true flu"- Respiratory Influenza. It will not protect you from getting a stomach virus that causes diarrhea and vomiting.
